What is Prince & Pals?

Driven by the desire to turn a really sad childhood story of an abandoned dog named Prince into a “pawsitive”, we decided to bring awareness to the numerous alternatives to dog and pet abandonment. We want to recognize a number of no-kill animal rescues across the county that help provide homes to pets in need. This page is curated by a team of people who love animals, of all shapes, sizes, breeds, and colors, and we just happen to work together too. Our mission is to bring awareness to the many no-kill adoption shelters and rescue organizations across the United States whose goal is to save these precious animals and find them good homes.

This is Bella's incredible transformation story! 🐾 Back in 2022, rescuers found her abandoned and tied up with steel cables in the backyard of an empty home. The poor pup was hopelessly tangled, which tragically led to the loss of one of her back legs. 💔 After receiving urgent care, Bella found her way to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary where she healed both physically and emotionally. ❤️ And the best part? Did you know that many common household items can be toxic to your furry friends? 🐶🐱 Chocolate, macadamia nuts, batteries, grapes, and onions are just a few of the things that can cause serious health problems for your pets, ranging from upset stomachs to organ damage and even death. 💔

🍫 Chocolate: Contains theobromine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and heart problems.
🌰 Macadamia nuts: Can cause weakness, tremors, and hyperthermia in dogs.
🔋 Batteries: If ingested, can cause chemical burns and blockages.
🍇 Grapes and raisins: Can cause kidney failure in dogs.
🧅 Onions, garlic, and chives: Can damage red blood cells and lead to anemia.

Keep these items safely out of reach of your pets, and be sure to educate yourself on other potentially harmful substances commonly found in homes. A little prevention can go a long way in keeping your furry family members happy and healthy!

Myth: "Shelters only have old abandoned animals that have behavioral issues". This couldn't be further from the truth. Rescue organizations end up with pets that are all ages, breeds, sizes, shapes and colors. If you are looking for a new family friend, visit a local shelter first and give a deserving animal a wonderful home.

On Veterans Day, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of all who have served our country. 🇺🇸 For many veterans, the support of a trained service animal or an emotional support animal (ESA) can make a profound difference in their daily lives.

What’s the Difference?

Service Dogs are trained to perform specific tasks to assist individuals with disabilities. For veterans, this might include tasks like guiding a person with visual impairments, providing balance support, or even helping with PTSD-related symptoms by providing physical or emotional reassurance during a crisis. These dogs are often seen as medical equipment under the law and have public access rights to accompany their owners anywhere.

Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) provide comfort and emotional stability to their owners, but they are not trained to perform specific tasks. While they can help veterans cope with anxiety, depression, and PTSD, ESAs do not have the same legal rights as service dogs and are typically allowed only in housing and air travel with proper documentation.

This week, 34 huskies were rescued from a cruelty case in Nevada County and are now in the care of local organizations like @SammiesFriends. Many are in poor health but are safe and looking for loving homes. If you can, consider adopting a dog or donating to help provide care for these animals.

To adopt a rescued dog, please contact Sammie’s Friends at (530) 471-5041 or visit sammiesfriends.org/adopt. Sammie’s Friends is also accepting donations at sammiesfriends.org/donate to help provide fuel, nourishment and medical care to all the dogs rescued. Donations earmarked for “Chance” will support the surviving rescued dogs.

🐱 Meet Happy Jack Cats, Inc.! Since 2015, they've dedicated their time to rescuing and rehabilitating "throwaway" kittens in Boise and Meridian, Idaho. As a limited admission, foster home-based feline rescue, they provide loving environments for homeless cats until they find their forever homes.
